History

In 1962 Richard Malouf opened the first Malouf Pharmacy on Albert Street, Brisbane City. Eight years later the ‘Beauty Bazaar’ was opened, introducing beauty to pharmacy and establishing Malouf Pharmacies as a destination for discerning beauty product customers. In 1972 the Albert Street pharmacy was relocated to Queen Street and Ian Malouf (Richard’s younger brother) joined the business. A decade later Lawrie Bray joined the group as the third business partner.

Hard work, tenacity, relationship building, working in partnership with suppliers and being friendly to customers have all been crucial to Malouf Pharmacies' success. Richard Malouf has been credited for positively influencing the retail pharmacy industry in Australia and his advice is both sought after and well regarded.

Today Malouf's is one of Australia's leading pharmacies and is the largest privately owned pharmacy group in Queensland, employing more than 450 staff. With pharmacies situated throughout Brisbane and surrounding areas, on the Sunshine Coast and in the regional locations of Toowoomba, Gympie, Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Mackay, the group has 17 pharmacies with plans for further expansion.

The partners continue to work actively within the brand, with the next generation of family joining the business.
